The Francis Crick Institute – Postdoctoral Career Development Fellowships for Clinicians
About the Fellowships: Fellows spend one year full-time or two years part-time working within a Crick research group, on a project agreed between the fellow and the Crick group leader.
The fellowships are designed to:
- act as a bridge between PhD training and a postdoctoral fellowship/independent research funding
- provide postdoctoral research experience, mentorship and career development
- create a strong platform for future funding applications, including clinician scientist fellowships
- foster long-term clinical-scientific links and collaborations.
Research environment and training: Fellows at the Crick join a vibrant, multidisciplinary research community of over 1,000 scientists. They have full access to the Crick postdoc training programme, and benefit from an extensive seminar programme including Crick lectures, Interest Group seminars and Symposia, from clinical academic networking opportunities, and from comprehensive training and career development activities including technical training via our Science Technology Platforms, science communication and grant writing.
Who can apply: This opportunity is ideal for talented and motivated postdoctoral clinicians who are passionate about research and demonstrate outstanding potential for continuing a career in academic medicine and research. Applicants should hold (or be about to hold) a research PhD alongside their medical degree or equivalent clinical professional qualification.
Application routes and funding:
• Route 1 is for clinicians looking for fully-funded fellowships, including both salary support and research costs. Route 1 application submission window: 1 March 2027 to 30 April 2027.
• Route 2 is designed for clinicians who already have salary support in place. This route is particularly suitable for NIHR or university funded Academic Clinical Lecturers who wish to continue their lectureship while undertaking research at the Crick. Route 2 fellowships cover research costs, but not salary. Route 2 applications are accepted year round.
